JBL 306P MkII is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gerat Studio Monitors! I've been looking for some time the right solution for my small studio. It's a 12ft x 13ft space. Most of the time I was listening to HiFi music through my high-end headphones, but at times I just wanted to take them off and continue to listen to music. I had other speakers that sounded flat. I hooked this directly to an iFI DAC and magic! The sound is very neutral, the highs are very clear, the bass powerful enough. Now I find myself listen more without my headphones.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Value Generally you get what you pay for. With the 306p's you get your money's worth but not the ultimate in studio monitors for which you'd have to pay more. On the plus side the output level is substantial. It takes a bit of adjusting to optimize the performance of these speakers to your listening environment. Low frequency roll off is likely needed if you place these speaker against a wall. The high frequency driver is pretty artificial with a lot of "paper" sound in the tweeter's response. Using the high frequency roll off will be essential for sustained listening. You'll need a subwoofer with these speakers, not because there is an inadequate low frequency response but because you'll want to hear the sub frequencies happening below the useful musical low end provided by a 6.5" driver.that can muddy up a mix. With a sub, there's plenty of punch in the kick drum and bass guitar. Disruptive mud can be more easily identified and addressed when a subwoofer is used. One annoyance is the constant low level high frequency hiss that emanates out of the speaker from the built in amplifier. You might not notice the amplifier noise in a noisy environment but in a quiet control room the hiss can be a bother. If you're on a tight budget, these speakers are a good value.

Regarding the crossover frequency for the 306p, 1425Hz seems low when compared to the other models in the new 3 series: 1725Hz for the 305p and 1800Hz for the 308p. Is the number for the 306p accurate? Would the HF driver be able to handle 1425Hz?

Asked by: Dave on Bass
It is low. Probably due to the wave guide which helps the tweeter with output levels and LF exetension. Amphion monitors which have a much shallower wave guide set their x-overs at 1.6K.

According to the manual (https://www.jbl.com/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-masterCatalog_Harman/default/dw8978425d/pdfs/JBL_3_Series_MkII_Owners_Manual_English.pdf) the speaker can activate auto standby mode. See page 12. But it doesn't work.
