Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprised It's like the $12 bottle of wine the knocks the socks off a $100 bottle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything I could want and more. I'm pairing this with my Mac Pro for some video editing and I'm wanting more of these for my surround system now. Went through a couple of other so-called good speakers. One had problems on the left channel right out of the box. These are everything that I've seen on all the reviews and more. Couldn't be happier.

Product Q&A

Do these get loud enough to play onstage in a band with a midi keyboard hooked up? Not large venues, but small to mid sized.

Asked by: anon1837492
The dimensions and acoustics of a room can have a major effect on sonic accuracy, and that’s why JBL 305P MkII lets you adjust the response to fit your studio. Using it for stage performance may not have the same effect as it is in a closed room.

Why there is a warning about potential risk of cancer or reproductive harm on a box of this product? What specific chemicals are used?

Asked by: TimEn
What is Proposition 65? Proposition 65 (“Prop 65”) is a California law that requires businesses to provide a warning before exposing individuals in California to any of 900-plus chemicals that California lists as a carcinogen or a reproductive toxicant (“Prop 65 List”). The list is available at: https://oehha.ca.gov/proposition-65/proposition-65-list. The law includes specific warning language that can be used by businesses to comply. The specific warning language is called a “safe harbor.” Why is Harman including this warning? The chemicals in products that require the Prop 65 warning can vary based on product type. Many of the chemicals on the Prop 65 List are common additives found in products such as jewelry, lamps, ceramic tableware, food, lead crystal glasses, electric cords, automobiles, beauty products, and furniture. Does this law apply everywhere? No, Prop 65 warnings are only required under California law. Are Harman products that display the Proposition 65 warning safe? Harman is committed to making products that comply with all applicable laws and that are safe to use. California’s Prop 65 is not a product safety law, but a chemical right-to-know law. We believe our products are safe when used as intended. I purchased this product outside of California, why does it include a Prop 65 warning? Harman sells products throughout the U.S. We do not know where each item will ship. We have no alternative except to place the Prop 65 warning on all of our products regardless of where they are sold. For more information go to: https://oehha.ca.gov/proposition-65/general-info/proposition-65-plain-language If you have any questions about any of our products, please contact: LA.PROP65@harman.com

Is this a near-field monitor? And is it active or passive, will I have to purchase a power amp?

Asked by: Jack B
Our JBL 305 MkII is not a near-field monitor. It's an active speaker, so there's no need for an amplifier. Ideally, the speakers should be placed on suitable speaker stands, rather than on the work surface. This will reduce resonance and deterioration of low-frequency performance caused by the speaker’s mechanical coupling with the work surface. When hooking the 305P MKII to my home PC, is an audio interface going to make that much of a difference? Or can I just run the 1/4 inch input into an 1/8 into my computer. The speakers would be no more than 2 feet away from the PC. Thanks guys.

Asked by: Drooly
You'll need an audio interface if you want to connect your computer to your studio monitor speakers. Also if you're looking for better sound quality when producing music, an audio interface is usually a must.
