null

Built-in 300-watt RMS (500-watt peak) amplifier

A 300-watt RMS (500 watts peak power) amplifier lets you play your Studio 550P subwoofer at body-quaking levels without any room-vibrating reverb or excessive heat output. A built-in limiter extends this ability by preventing distortion that can arise out of sudden peaks, taking the audio from merely impressive to completely immersive.

null

10-inch (250mm) PolyPlas low-frequency transducer

The Studio 550P features a 10-inch (250-millimetre) cone made from lightweight yet rigid PolyPlas cone material. For the listener, this structure means powerful heart-thumping bass with such low distortion that individual sounds remain both accurate and articulate, even at sustained low frequencies. This is the kind of bass that takes surround sound from simply a listening experience to a seemingly tangible, robust environment.

null

Sealed enclosure

Power and accuracy normally do not go hand in hand. The Studio 550P, however, is by no means a mere normal subwoofer. It features a sealed enclosure that acts to control the woofer cone’s motion, thus providing consistent, reliable sound that remains smooth and rich even at the deepest of frequencies.

null

Forward-firing transducer

The Studio 550P places you in the centre of the action by sending the action straight at you via a powerful, forward-firing cone. Sound travels directly to your ears without reverberating off the walls or bending around the furniture. This is bass in its most potent form, from a subwoofer versatile enough to be placed in the middle of the room or against a wall.

null

Adjustable crossover frequency and phase control

A phase switch ensures that the action of the Studio 550 subwoofer’s transducer moves in sync with your main speakers. As a result, the subwoofer’s low frequencies blend seamlessly with the sound coming from the main speakers, regardless of where you place the subwoofer in a room. Furthermore, an adjustable crossover-frequency control lets you optimize the subwoofer for a variety of main/satellite speaker choices.

null

LFE and line-level inputs

A choice of LFE and line-level inputs lets you either use or bypass the subwoofer’s internal crossover circuits for bass-boosting versatility. This option provides greater flexibility in how you use the Studio 550P while ensuring noise-free connections to virtually any type of audio/video amplifier.

null

Metal floor spikes included

Unwanted interaction between the subwoofer and the floor can cause distortion – but the Studio 550P includes an array of metal spikes to reduce distortion. The use of such spikes also creates clean sound by placing a cushion of air between the speaker and anything that could potentially disturb its pristine low-frequency waves.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality & Value I bought a pair of these to round out my Studio 5 series 5-channel a/v system. I got a great price as they were "factory refurbished". The only blemish was that one unit seemed to have had something spilled on its grille. It cleaned off quite easily, though, so now both look perfect, and so far they seem to be functioning perfectly. They're not super-subs by any means (not at this size and price) but they do a great job and sound tight and clean, taking a load off my receiver. They look real good, especially with my Studio 590's, 530's and 520C. So far I am completely thrilled with them. They were well-packed and shipping was super speedy, too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clear and unobtrusive I've been using this sub for several months now and I have really enjoyed it. It is a forward firing sub, which means it isn't just a port pointing into the room, but the whole woofer, which removes some of the tones and 'wooshing.' Frankly, paired with some really wide range towers (like the studio 590s) you might not even notice it is there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT ADDITION TO MY SOUND BAR I purchased this sub to add to my Yamaha YAS-106 sound bar. Had enjoyed the sound bar but was looking for a fuller sound and some effects on movies. I am very pleased with the addition of the JBL sub to my sound bar. It filled out the sound and added the bottom that I was looking for. Simple set up....just plug and play really.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a great subwoofer! I bought one of these subs for a new home theatre setup. When I tried it out it was great for music but lacking a bit for home theatre for my large living room with high ceilings. I added a second one of these and it now sounds great for movies as well as music. I was originally planning to build a high end subwoofer, but decided to try one of these because it was on sale at a fantastic deal. Even though I bought two of them I spent less at the sale price than I was planning to spend on building a sub. These are very well built with cast basket subwoofers and 1" thick mdf enclosures and weigh about 50 pounds each. If you can get one of these when it's on sale don't hesitate to buy one or maybe two.

Product Q&A

I have a stereo receiver that only has a pair of high level speaker outputs (Speaker A and Speaker B). No pre-outs. How to I hook up this sub? through the High level input? The only inputs i see listed are LFE and line in.

Asked by: Ludog14
Thank you for your inquiry regarding you JBL SUB 550P. If an LFE connector is only option then you connect it to the left line-in connector only. Any reason the 12" SUB 560P is not being sold? I have recently bought Studio 590+530+520 to build 7.2.4 and I'd love to get two 560P to complete the setup.

Asked by: ants25
We're currently waiting for JBL SUB550P to be available in our warehouse. This is still a current product, and we're still manufacturing it. You can check from our third-party sellers for availability.

I have a JBL Soundbar 3.1 and the wireless subwoofer just broke. Could this one be hardwired to the soundbar to replace the broken wireless sub?

Asked by: JBL_Be_Breakin
Thanks for your inquiry. Our JBL Soundbar 3.1 subwoofer can't be replace with the SUB550P. The soundbar and subwoofer is working hand in hand and it only connects to one specific soundbar/subwoofer.

Will this SUB 550P works with JBL link bar? And how to connect them? Thank you!

Asked by: Pavel 1
Our Sub 550P will not work with the JBL Link Bar. JBL Link Bar's dedicated subwoofer is our JBL SW10. You can use your Sub 550P with a receiver that has subwoofer outputs.
