These speakers have a maximum recommended amplifier rating of 125 watts per channel. So basically, as long as you get a receiver with a wattage rating of 125 watts per channel or less, it will work fine with these speakers.
These speakers are passive, so yes, they do need amplification, either a separate component amplifier or a receiver.
While virtually any receiver will work, I can tell you that we test our speakers using the amplification from our sister company, Harman Kardon. So I would recommend an HK3770 (120 watts per channel) as a great match.
As for the sub, as long as your sub can double the power output of the receiver, it will be powerful enough to keep up with the system. So any one of our current subwoofers will work very nicely with these speakers.
