Rated 5 out of 5 by from You need these. Amazing open sound with great depth. These are paired with the Studio 520C, L8400P sub, and some JBL bookshelf’s for rears for a superb 5.1 experience. Beautiful imaging in stereo with extremely accurate sound. Highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Weight/$$ Ratio Recently had these delivered to my home and they are everything I could have hoped for. I must say at a shipping weight of 220lbs, they truly are one of the cheapest lbs/$$ item you can have [bought these when they were half off]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Switched out my good old E90s for these and couldn't be happier. They fit like a glove in my 9 channel home theater. Outstanding sound and great price!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I wanted! I have been listening to these for only a week, and as I expect them to break-in nicely, I can only imagine how good they will sound then. Natural voices combine with thunderous bass and an expansive sound stage image to make the Studio 590s top of the line speakers. I own several other JBL products, and this is such a natural progression for the line. Speaker size strikes a commanding presence in a large room, and the sound can easily fill the same space.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sounding, powerful speakers I am very pleased with the clean, powerful sound these speakers produce. Using the Studio 590 in a two channel setup works great without the need for a subwoofer (unless you gotta hear/feel the deepest pipe organ or synth notes). Even using a moderately powered 50 wpc NAD integrated, they produce excellent dynamics. The only issue I have is the grilles. If you want to listen with the grilles off, you have to replace the bottom quarter of the HF horn with the provided plastic piece. It was difficult to line up the piece in order to attach correctly. The top tab connects OK, but It felt like the attaching posts were going to bend - had to connect one side at at time, and wiggle it in place. I would say the designers chose form over function in this respect.

Recommendation for Avr/amp?

Asked by: snibbb
The STUDIO 590 can handle power up to 250W at 6-ohms. As long as your receiver is rated at 6-ohms and can drive power handling does not exceed 250W, it should work fine.

What does higher quality woofers in 590 mean?  How are they different than the woofers in 290? Is there a quality difference in tweeters also?

Asked by: Helps
Compared to the Studio 290.The JBL Studio 590 floorstanding loudspeaker combines a 25mm (1") HF compression driver and Bi-Radial® horn with dual 200mm (8") cast-frame Symmetrical Field Geometry (SFG) woofers to deliver extraordinarily lifelike performance. So there's definitely some audio quality in the Studio 590.

Would these Studio 590 work well with the Studio LC2 center channel? i see the matching Studio 520c is no longer available. I’m was looking at getting the Studio L890, however, after reading several reviews on the 590’s, i’m thinking about getting these.

Asked by: Jaymund
Hi, The Studio 590 should work well with the Studio LC2 center channel as long as you don't crank up the volume of the receiver. The Studio 590 can handle 250 watts at 6 ohms while the LC2 handles 150W at 8 ohms.

Do you need a subwoofer with these?

Asked by: JimS
The Studio 590 was designed to have a dual woofer with a frequency response of 35Hz-40kHz which means it will give you exceptional bass response when playing music thru it. If you want to enhance your listening experience then it would be best to add a sub woofer into the system to get more bass.

What are the differences between the 590 and the 290 ? they appear to be very similar

Asked by: Larr
The Studio 590 and 290 do have the same appearance. However, the main difference is the number and type of speakers inside. The 290 has two(2) 8" woofers, one(1) 4" mid-range and a 1" tweeter while the 590 has higher quality 8" woofers and a 1" horn loaded tweeter allowing it to accept up to 250W, a higher rating than the 290.

Would these be better than the JBL ND310 for a stereo setup?

Asked by: JBL for life
The JBL Studio 590 and ND310 are quite different in design, the 590 uses a compression driver while the 310 uses a dome tweeter. Technically, the Studio 590 is a bit more efficient at power handling and has a little deeper bass response. Otherwise it comes down to user preference (room size, speaker placement, type of music) for choosing which is the better option.
