Dual 8" (200mm) ribbed PolyPlas woofer cones

Powerful bass affects more than just your ears. It resonates through your entire body, creating a soundscape that you can feel as well as hear. The JBL Studio 590 floorstanding loudspeaker delivers accurate low-frequency sounds from a pair of 8-inch (200-millimetre) ribbed PolyPlas woofers. The ribs improve strength while reducing distortion. The result is rich, powerful, articulate bass.

null

Symmetrical Field Geometry (SFG) magnet assembly

Thanks to a heavy-duty Symmetrical Field Geometry (SFG) magnet assembly, the Studio 590 floorstanding loudspeaker’s pair of low-frequency woofers delivers highly focused bass. The result is pristine, articulate sound.

null

1" (25mm) high-frequency compression driver

The JBL Studio 590 floorstanding loudspeaker’s high-frequency compression driver lowers distortion and provides a wider dynamic range than is possible from conventional high-frequency and midrange drivers. The tweeter comprises a one-piece Teonex® diaphragm/surround assembly fitted with a 1-inch (25-millimetre) voice coil that can deliver enhanced vocal articulation.

Glass-filled ABS Bi-Radial high-frequency horn

Horn-shaped loudspeaker designs optimize high-frequency output by directing the sound to the listener with pinpoint accuracy, thereby eliminating reverberation, reflections off walls, and other artefacts. The Studio 590 floorstanding loudspeaker features a glass-filled ABS Bi-Radial high-frequency horn that delivers professional-level sound to your home.

null

Low-loss, 2-1/2-way crossover network

The Studio 590 floorstanding loudspeaker’s low-loss, 2-1/2-way crossover network ensures a clean transition for sound coming from individual low-frequency and high-frequency drivers, thereby reducing distortion while improving clarity.

Bi-wire capability

The Studio 590 floorstanding loudspeaker will work with multiple power amplifiers or connection setups – or both – for single-wire or bi-wire operation. The result is enhanced versatility in the ways you can use the Studio 590 speaker.

null

Sturdy 3/4" (19mm) MDF enclosure

The Studio 590 floorstanding loudspeaker’s cabinet is built with the same attention to perfection as every other component. Rigid, heavily braced materials prevent unwanted resonances, while non-parallel surfaces eliminate sound interference.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sounding, powerful speakers I am very pleased with the clean, powerful sound these speakers produce. Using the Studio 590 in a two channel setup works great without the need for a subwoofer (unless you gotta hear/feel the deepest pipe organ or synth notes). Even using a moderately powered 50 wpc NAD integrated, they produce excellent dynamics. The only issue I have is the grilles. If you want to listen with the grilles off, you have to replace the bottom quarter of the HF horn with the provided plastic piece. It was difficult to line up the piece in order to attach correctly. The top tab connects OK, but It felt like the attaching posts were going to bend - had to connect one side at at time, and wiggle it in place. I would say the designers chose form over function in this respect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from jbl studio 590 bk i bought these jbl s back in 2015 . at that time i had a onkyo tx nr 5010 receiver top model and i had it hooked up with these speakers on bi amp good sound but to much boom in the low range . so i placed the speakers about 80 cm from the wall it got a lot better. .but after a while i realized that i m a real music lover i need to change my setup so in 2017 i started to go for the onkyo p 3000 r and two m 5000 r power amps i made the set complete with dab tuner . onkyo cp 1050 turntable with ortofon 2m bronze pnp cartridge . i bought second hand loudspeaker cable straitwire crescendo type 2 for midrange and low end. for the compession tweeter b&w loudspeaker cable cdc t 16 . wow a sound . take my word for it nothing comes close at this price range .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Total Musical Enjoyment Purchased Studio 590s and their matching speakers for a 7:1 (SVS Ultra 13 sub)totally immersive sound system. After auditioning B&W, Paradigm, Golden Ear and others I settled on JBL for the realism in music I demand. The detail and sound stage are awesome. I hear cymbals that are true to sound and you can hear the diminishing sound after the strike. This is a well balanced system with plenty of punch and realistic sound. Excellent for home theater and pure enjoyment for listening to all music genres.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I wanted! I have been listening to these for only a week, and as I expect them to break-in nicely, I can only imagine how good they will sound then. Natural voices combine with thunderous bass and an expansive sound stage image to make the Studio 590s top of the line speakers. I own several other JBL products, and this is such a natural progression for the line. Speaker size strikes a commanding presence in a large room, and the sound can easily fill the same space.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing sound!! The packages were delayed by almost a week and the anticipation killed me. But these speakers are weak worth the money! I would buy more sets to add to all my rooms if I had the money! I have never had speakers that have hit so low before. But it is a very crisp low. Does not sound sloppy. The highs are very clean sounding and it’s amazing that the two don’t clash. I hear a big difference when watching movies and listening to music! It is safe to say BUY THESE SPEAKERS!

Product Q&A

Are there any surround speakers that would match the studio 590s well. There are the 530s but they are simply too expensive (1k or more) to use just for surround so are there any alternatives? Thanks.

Asked by: Nick flicks
I bought a pair of the Studio 230 bookshelf speakers.  They worked pretty darn well as surrounds for the 590 towers, and you can sometimes catch them on a good sale on the JBL site.  I recently upgraded to 590 towers all the way around (left, right, center and surrounds.)  It's expensive, but it sounds ridiculously good.  I never liked multi-channel stereo before (when your receiver "upscales" the stereo sound to 5.1), but it sounds phenomenal in this all-590 setup.

Hello, which surround speakers are designed to match the Studio 580 and/or 590? I can find any offerings available which have the same tweeter design. Thanks!

Asked by: Z06Dude
The STUDIO 210 is the surround speaker that was designed for this series. If you do not mind having bigger speakers as your surround, mounted on your walls, the STUDIO 230 would also work as great surround speakers.

I love all JBL speakers but have a question. Studio 290's are 1/2 the price and use the same woofers as the 590's Unlike the 590's, the 290's also have a midrange driver. Here's the Question: "For home theater use, why is the 590 superior to 290?"

Asked by: HTFan
The main difference is the number and type of speakers inside. The 290 has two(2) 8" woofers, one(1) 4" mid-range and a 1" tweeter while the 590 has higher quality 8" woofers and a 1" horn loaded tweeter allowing it to accept up to 250W, a higher rating than the 290. The Studio 590 will definitely deliver an extraordinarily lifelike performance.

What would be a matching and most applicable sound-wise center speaker to the Studio 590?

Asked by: Nicki1
The 520C is the speaker specifically designed to be the center channel with the 590 towers.  However, I recently bought another 590 tower as my center!  I put it behind my TV, and even in that weird position I think it sounds better than a 520C in front of my TV (I know, because I used to own the 520C).  My plan is to one day get an acoustically transparent screen and use a projector.  When the sound doesn't have a TV interfering with it, the 590 center will perfectly match the 590 left/right speakers.

The floor standing speaker design does not fit in my Media room configuration.  Is there a chance that these speakers could be used by laying them horizontally, instead of vertically standing? Thanks!

Asked by: SamDLG
technically, yes it will work. but doing that screws up it's placement in the room, that's a big deal. out of time also. a few more things, but no, I wouldn't do it at home
