So I keep seeing lanai as an approved area but not a patio or porch... a lanai is just big porch, correct? flat out, will these things stand up to temperature changes and humidity of being in a covered outdoor environment? Thanks!

Asked by: Bdawson44
Lanais are usually designed differently; as long as the ceiling can accommodate the SP8CII’s mounting dimension, it should be fine. The SP8CII’s mounting depth is 4-1/4" (108mm) and its diameter is 9-1/2" (240mm). These are indoor speakers which are designed to withstand heat/cold from -40 degrees Celsius up to 60 degrees Celsius. If the listening areas is enclosed from the outdoor environment, the SP8CII will function as intended.

I found this speaker model on another website and they had it listed as one of the best in ceiling speaker for outdoors (like in a patio). Looking at the speakers description, I do not see any info stating that it can be used for indoor/outdoor.

Asked by: Jnxm
It is not suited for a patio but a lanais would be better as long as it has a ceiling that can accommodate the SP8CII’s mounting dimension, this should be fine. The SP8CII’s mounting depth is 4-1/4" (108mm) and its diameter is 9-1/2" (240mm).

Are these speakers available for educational facilities?

Asked by: ITguy0492
The JBL SP8C!! are passive architectural speakers that require power from an amplifer/receiver. As long as you can provide roughly 100 watts of power at 8 ohms to each speaker, they will work great. Please note; you may or may not need more than a pair of SP8CII speakers depending on the listening area size and audio volume level.

Can these speakers be used in the front and back walls as well or only in the ceiling? Will they still be as effective if in the walls? Thanks.

Asked by: Merrill
For the most part, in-ceiling speakers are the same as car audio coax type speakers. You can put them in a door panel, rear panel, front dash, and so on. The direction doesn’t matter all that much, and the dispersion is not a big issue when it comes to in-wall or in-ceiling speakers. The main difference is in dimensions. In-ceiling speakers are typically deeper because ceiling studs are typically bigger than a 2x4. They are usually 2x6, 2x8 or 2x10. For this reason, the depth of an in-ceiling speaker is typically much deeper than the depth of an in-wall speaker. And it is because of this that you CANNOT use an in-ceiling speaker in a wall, simply because it won’t fit, it’s too deep. But there is no harm in using an in-wall in a ceiling, because it is shallow enough to fit.

Are they Bluetooth?

Asked by: That kid
No, the SP8CII is not equipped with Bluetooth technology. The SPCII is a passive in-ceiling loudspeaker that requires an amplifier or receiver in order to function.

I would need four of these speakers for a classroom. If they are wired in parallel, what wattage amplifier would I need to make sure that it's loud enough? They would be playing both movies and music.

Asked by: ITguy0492
SP8CII can handle up to 100 watts at 8 ohms. If you are considering to wire four of these in parallel (two speakers in one terminal), the impedance will drop down to 4 ohm. You need a receiver/amplifier that can accommodate 4 ohm speakers in order to use the SP8CII adequately.
