The S400BT: a new experience in sound and simplicity

The portable revolution will be synchronized. You can’t press pause on a pro-audio revolution – certainly not when JBL engineers are at the helm. Introducing the new JBL S400BT. As the latest addition to the JBL Synchros line of premium headphones, the award-winning S400BT adds the freedom of Bluetooth 3.0 wireless to the performance of a Synchros headphone. Using advanced aptX digital encoding technology that streams high-resolution audio on par with any wired Synchros headphone, the S400BT is fine-tuned on the inside to maximize enjoyment on the outside. Take the headphone’s hassle-free single touch sensor for instance: all you need to do is swipe your finger anywhere along the S400BT’s left outer earcup, and you can seamlessly adjust your headphone’s volume, track-changes, and call settings, since the entire earcup functions as a single, touch-sensitive control system. The right outer earcup boosts user flexibility as well, coming with an NFC sensor that pairs your headphone to any NFC-enabled device. Just give the right earcup a single tap, and you’re instantly connected. With this level of intuitive technology at play, it’s hard not to notice how the S400BT simplifies like never before. Others will definitely take notice: a built-in LED lighting system trails the touch of your hand in reaction to each adjustment made to your headphone’s settings. Now you can showcase your listening experience at the speed of light. Viewed as a whole, the S400BT is a wireless headphone that’s meant to celebrate - as much as to simplify – premium listening. Chances are you’ve never witnessed a headphone that comes even close to this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great sound, Awesome look I just got these in the mail a few hours ago. They are smaller than I anticipated, which is a good thing. There is some sound leak, the calls sound great but you sound distant to the other person, and they protrude from your head a little more than I would like. Everything else is really great, especially the sound quality. I love the NFC capability, and the headphones are super comfortable. I have been wearing them since they arrived in the mail with no discomfort. I considered the beats studio wireless, and after examining my friend's for a few minutes, I really like these better. Fair price, phenomenal build quality, and they look great. Most importantly, the sound over Bluetooth is INCREDIBLE! I highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from PHENOMENAL!! Sound quality is fantastic! Any type of music you like they will cover it all, I play guitar and after just 1hr of listening over Bluetooth I've heard chords in songs I've never even heard from songs from back in the 80's and 90's! I tried sol replublic, beats, and monster headsets along with a couple others and almost gave up until I found these online and ordered. Music lovers of any type you won't be let down at all. Comfort is great as well, touch pad works great also. I never leave reviews of purchases but I couldn't resist leaving one this time. Highly recommend over the other junk out there. My only bad remark is shipping was extremely slow so if you want it fast pay the extra shipping charge.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing!!! I’ve had these headphones for 3 years, and they are still some of the best headphones I’ve ever had. They work perfectly, and it’s not that much of a surprise since they’re from JBL (my dad’s been using their equipment for 30+ years) However, I lost the charging cable, and I can’t find any replacement cables that aren’t from a sketchy third-party company on eBay. I’d really like to get a genuine one or at least one from a trusted company, because it seems like these aren’t gonna break anytime soon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great functionality! I bought this on Black Friday for a bargain. The touch screen is such a cool feature. I don't have to touch my phone at all to listen to my favorite music, but just need to press one button and the touch pad, both on the left ear. I sometimes plug into my computer at work which is a great option if I'm in my office for an extended amount of time. If I go for a walk, it's as simple as unplug, press two buttons and I'm listening to my favorite music in seconds. Also, very portable and comfortable with great sound quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great headphones with Cons that can be lived with. Into second week with these headphones. These are great headphones. Sound is awesome. Any kind of music you will enjoy for sure. When the volume is high, you can see the headphones responding so well that you can feel the music.. Cons of the headset: 1) While the touch control is innovative it becomes both the strength and weakness. you need to get used to the panel and the its the best headset out there. 2) Music leak from the headphone: On high volumes the music gets leaked which is obvious for most of the headphones but the best point is, at that high volume also the headphones sound so great. Happy for the purchase!!

Product Q&A

Is there a smartphone APPlication I can use to see battery charge level?

Asked by: Raedwulf
Unfortunately, there's no available app for the SYNCHROS S400BT. However, when the SYNCHROS S400BT is paired to the iOS device, a small battery symbol will appear, usually next to the Bluetooth symbol. This is a battery level indicator.

Can I use an ac charger? If so what is the voltage, ampreage and polarity? Do you offer an ac charger?

Asked by: MenudoKing
It would be best to use the charger that came with the unit.  If not, be sure to use a USB charger (5v) with the same amp/current rating provided in the specs or higher. If the spec says 1A (1000mA), any USB charger with a rating of 1A or higher is acceptable.  Lower than 1A is not recommended.

I have trouble pairing my Synchros S400BT and Macbook Pro using Mac OS X 10.6.8. The computer does not even find the headphone. What is its device address? Can you help?

Asked by: EEEE
Bluetooth compatibility should be checked before connecting any Bluetooth capable device to one another, i.e recent/newer model mobile devices came out with Bluetooth version 4.1 which is compatible with these Bluetooth Profiles: A2DP V1.3, AVRCP V1.4, HFP V1.6, HSP V1.2. Some laptops(Mac/Windows based) comes with Bluetooth version 4.1 which also has the aforementioned Bluetooth Profiles. Some older versions of laptops only has the Bluetooth version 3.0 and below, which is not a problem with Bluetooth version 4.1 in terms of connectivity as Bluetooth version 4.1 is said to be backwards compatible, so connecting a device with a higher version of Bluetooth to another device with a lower version of Bluetooth is possible. The concern now is if the laptop's Bluetooth version is capable of Bluetooth audio streaming using the latest Bluetooth Streaming Profiles( A2DP V1.3, AVRCP V1.4, HFP V1.6, HSP V1.2 ). If the computer is not capable of streaming audio wirelessly via Bluetooth, you would need to update the Bluetooth version of your laptop. Firmware(drivers) and Software updates are available from the manufacturer of the laptop/computer.

I got this pair of headphones for Christmas. I'm not sure if it just my pair or not but when I'm working out they cut out every once in awhile. They sound like they crackle and do not hold a steady connection

Asked by: Tanner
There are a couple of things to be considered here. 1. If you are using the wired connection, make sure the cable is securely connected on both ends. A loose cable can cause a crackle like sound. 2. If you are using them via Bluetooth, try moving your device to the other side of your body. Bluetooth radio signals do not go through your body very well.

Will they work on Windows 10? & I’m a bit afraid of what’s getting sold here due to the fact that JBL it self has the Refurbished product on sale.

Asked by: Aria
Hi! The JBL Synchros S400BT utilizes the standard Bluetooth Stereo Audio drivers available in most computers. There are two different Bluetooth protocols, one for Headset Audio used for talking on the phone, and the other for high quality stereo audio listening. Your laptop should be able to connect to the headphones using the Stereo Audio protocol. Your best bet is to go into your control panel and find the Bluetooth setup. This setup usually provides a setup wizard and will take you through the steps to install the drivers needed for Stereo Audio. Also, we do have refurbished products being sold, but these products are tested and works as a brand new product which are approved by our engineers.

What is the proper way to charge these?

Asked by: Jb8301
The Synchros S400BT comes with a micro USB cable that you can plug into your laptop or computer. The 2.5 mm jack end will need to be plugged in on the right ear phone that is located between the power and the bluetooth button.

There is a CTIA cable to use with the S400BT, for, when wired, maintain the audio control and microfone (by the cable) functionality?

Asked by: Rafael Fischer
The S400BT only comes with a straight cable that does not have an inline remote and this disables the controls on the S400BT.
