Professional-level technology in a floorstanding loudspeaker.

The JBL® Studio 590 floorstanding loudspeaker brings professional-quality sound to the home experience. The Studio 590 uses the technology that JBL engineers developed for pro-audio loudspeakers to deliver accurate, powerful sound to your living room. The Studio 590 floorstanding speaker is a perfect complement to other members of the Studio 5 Series, including the Studio 530 bookshelf and the Studio 520C centre-channel loudspeakers. The Studio 590 features a 1-inch (25-millimetre) tweeter mounted on a glass-filled Bi-Radial® horn – the same technology used in JBL concert sound systems – to deliver concise, sustained high frequencies. A pair of 8-inch (200-millimetre) PolyPlas™ cones with Symmetrical Field Geometry™ (SFG) magnet assemblies handle low frequencies.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expansive sound, without sounding forced I remember when I sold horn speakers in the 80's and 90's. While they were usually efficient and loud, I really didn't consider them a type of speaker that would coax the intricacies and details out of great recordings. Fast forward to 2019....I'm amazed at the advances in horn/speaker technology. Yes I know, I've been out of the industry for a while. Let me just say upfront that the sound of these speakers are amazing. They completely caught me by surprise. The 590s present a large sound/soundstage, but at the same time, they don't sound "forced". Moreover, I feel that there is so much "air" that I can hear in the soundstage, that I'm actually listening to music...not just speakers. The detail, precision, and fullness is more than impressive. Before I hooked up the Studio 590s, I thought I might have to add a sub-woofer in order to get the deep bass that I usually appreciate. However, on the first listen, that thought was quickly abandoned. The lower end is full, but not tubby or plodding. Just a quick, definitive bass. So far, I've listened to Jazz, Classical, Rock, Chillout, various Popular Music, stuff from the Rat Pack era, etc....these speakers can handle it all. A couple of things that did surprise me: - Older recordings seemed to be rejuvenated...they really held up well. - As well as, I was able to hear new details in other recordings that I was very familiar with. Again, a pleasant surprise. Overall, I would highly recommend these speakers to someone looking to upgrade their system. From casual listener to hard core Audiophile you won't be disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gentle Acoustic Giants These speakers are big, heavy, and impressive. Like a spaceship these speakers will take you to other worlds. I upgraded from some much older JBL stadium speakers and it was like night and day in playback quality. My music and movies became much more clear, crisp and focused. I've not been moved to tears by speakers in a long time, but playing back my favorite tracks over these sent chills down my spine. These speakers contain tech found in more expensive speakers and punch well above their cost. Make sure to power them with at least 100 watts, though they play really load even at low levels. They will crush your space at well below their rated max, and they sound darn good doing it. I matched them with the center channel, a must if you want a consistent sound, don't worry the center channel keeps up with no issues and also sounds very good as well. If you setup your room correctly, I recommend checking out Z-reviews video about these speakers for more detail. These speakers benefit from sitting higher in most rooms, I sit mine on my duel 12" subs in the front and angle them in toward my seats. It makes the imaging just that much better, making for a nearly perfect center without the center channel. And yes do yourself a favor and listen to these speakers in stereo mode if your amp\receiver supports 2 channel with sub. Turn off surround and focus the sound to these for music and you will understand. Switch between surround and stereo for contrast, again everyone has different gear and spaces but these speakers are incredible by themselves. The sound reproduction is just something that you need to hear to understand. Let these spaceships take your ears to the stars!

Are there any surround speakers that would match the studio 590s well. There are the 530s but they are simply too expensive (1k or more) to use just for surround so are there any alternatives? Thanks.

Asked by: Nick flicks
Nick Flicks, I am a JBL speaker owner too. To answer your surround sound question... "For my surrounds I use JBL Arena B15 .. known as the Arena 120 and they are wicked good! They will keep up with Studio 590's once you calibrate your system. Also, they're sealed cabinets as opposed to ported or vented ones and this means they deliver tighter more accurate sound altogether. This makes them awesome surround speakers. Remember, most of the sound from the surrounds is ambient and background noises etc. But, when there is heavy sound in the surround channels, the Arena B15 aka 120's will deliver! They are a warm speaker with a top end sparkle and that's why I believe they're the perfect surround sound speaker for Home Theater. Rated at 100 watts, these JBL Arena's will sing right along with the 590's. I just got mine onsale marked down to $69 a pair from the factory $199 a pair list price. They also aren't huge for a bookshelf speaker. 2 way design with 5" woofer & a 1" tweeter with JBL's proprietary HD wave guide. The internal crossovers are part of the magic too. I'd use them for all the surround speakers, even ceiling mounted ATMOS FX speakers. I hope I answered your question? Good Luck!

Hello, which surround speakers are designed to match the Studio 580 and/or 590? I can find any offerings available which have the same tweeter design. Thanks!

Asked by: Z06Dude
The STUDIO 210 is the surround speaker that was designed for this series. If you do not mind having bigger speakers as your surround, mounted on your walls, the STUDIO 230 would also work as great surround speakers.

I love all JBL speakers but have a question. Studio 290's are 1/2 the price and use the same woofers as the 590's Unlike the 590's, the 290's also have a midrange driver. Here's the Question: "For home theater use, why is the 590 superior to 290?"

Asked by: HTFan
The main difference is the number and type of speakers inside. The 290 has two(2) 8" woofers, one(1) 4" mid-range and a 1" tweeter while the 590 has higher quality 8" woofers and a 1" horn loaded tweeter allowing it to accept up to 250W, a higher rating than the 290. The Studio 590 will definitely deliver an extraordinarily lifelike performance.

Would these Studio 590 work well with the Studio LC2 center channel? i see the matching Studio 520c is no longer available. I’m was looking at getting the Studio L890, however, after reading several reviews on the 590’s, i’m thinking about getting these.

Asked by: Jaymund
Hi, The Studio 590 should work well with the Studio LC2 center channel as long as you don't crank up the volume of the receiver. The Studio 590 can handle 250 watts at 6 ohms while the LC2 handles 150W at 8 ohms.

I was reading lots of comments above and how great the speaker is.  Can this speaker use for karaoke?  The family and friend really enjoy karaoke night.  Unfortunately, I had bad experience with JBL JRX100 that current sit inside my closet.

What would be a matching and most applicable sound-wise center speaker to the Studio 590?

Asked by: Nicki1
The 520C is the speaker specifically designed to be the center channel with the 590 towers.  However, I recently bought another 590 tower as my center!  I put it behind my TV, and even in that weird position I think it sounds better than a 520C in front of my TV (I know, because I used to own the 520C).  My plan is to one day get an acoustically transparent screen and use a projector.  When the sound doesn't have a TV interfering with it, the 590 center will perfectly match the 590 left/right speakers.

Recommendation for Avr/amp?

Asked by: snibbb
The STUDIO 590 can handle power up to 250W at 6-ohms. As long as your receiver is rated at 6-ohms and can drive power handling does not exceed 250W, it should work fine.
