Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best speaker tower I ever purchased Buying two of these bad boys was the best investment I have ever made in home theater & audio. They perform well, even with only 75 W RMS to each channel (JBL recommends 110W RMS). My Denon Amp is a 75 W RMS x 4 (@ 8 ohms) and a 110 RMS x 4 (@ 6 ohms) so I was a little concerned when ordering that these speakers would be underpowered since they are rated at 8 ohms total impedance per tower. Not so. 75 W RMS is PLENTY of power especially for an apartment or condo, even though this is 35 W RMS below the recommended power. I've never even turned my amp all the way up to feed them the full 75 W RMS of power my amp is capable of delivering. The speakers are capable of taking much more just because of the fact that they are robust and meaty. The only time you would ever want to feed these things with full 110 W RMS is if you have a very large room with lots of people, like at a big party, and no neighbors within a block or two (to avoid noise complaints). I am a certified and professional degreed Audio Engineer and I recommend this to anybody looking for a pair of great towers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Value I purchased these re-certified straight from Harman. Considering they shippped these beasts for free, it feels like I stole them from Harman they were so cheap. They are installed as the fronts in a 5.1 system about 8 feet from the listening position. I purchased them to round out the lower midrange and higher bass registers compared to my previous floor standers that only had 5.25" drivers. Mission accomplished, these speakers sound incredible. Came with very minor cosmetic damage near one of the feet and missing one bi-amp shorting plate. I really can't complain considering the price.

Hi there, I am using HK3490 stereo receiver and recently bought JBL ES90. I've done bi-wiring with QED cable. The thing is that, the vocals (mid) are quite narrow and sharp sounding. How can i get wide open rich vocals / mid. Please suggest. TIA.

Asked by: Shafquat
Assuming the unit is okay and the speakers are not damaged, there are a few things to check. 1. Check the polarity on the speakers wires at the back of the receiver and the back of the speakers. If any of the wires are reversed polarity, this will cause terrible sonic issues like he has described. 2. If he is boosting bass and/or treble, he should not have to do this with this receiver and speakers. Set the bass and treble in the middle. These two things should solve his problem. If you are still having issues with the unit, please contact the store that you've purchased the ES90 from. They should be able to assist you, or at least lead you to the people who can help.

Hello, was wondering if you could recommend a particular receiver to power two of these speakers?that way i can purchase somthing that will drive them as intended. Thanks

Asked by: Puddin
The ES90 speakers can handle up to 225 watts per channel. This means that any receiver with a power output of 225 watts per channel or less will work fine with these speaker. It really comes down to your listening preference. For example, if your listening taste only requires 30 watts per channel of power in order to be loud enough for you, there would be no reason to get a 225 watt per channel amplifier, as you will never use all of that power. The most important thing is to get a receiver that puts out enough volume for you, without exceeding the 225 watt limit of the speakers. Both receivers from our sister company, Harman Kardon, the HK3700 and HK3770, will do a fine job driving these speakers.

which sound better. ES90 or Studio 590?

Asked by: Davin Pin
We appreciate your interest in our products. Both speakers are great but still depends on your preference. We prefer the ES90 if you're into speakers that can provide sharp sound and a lot of detail, especially when listening to music. The Studio 590 also presents the same audio quality, but the difference is it uses a horn-loaded compression tweeter design that produces better overall high frequency and disperses it better over a room.

I'm interested in buying 4 standing speakers. Is it possible to have them all working together? And how so?

Asked by: Aels747
Hi Aels, you have two options, which we base on an audio-video receiver, such as the AVR 370, where you can connect each of the four speakers to its own, dedicated amplifier channel. Then you can select 4-channel (or 5-channel) stereo, which will give you two full-range left channel and two full-range right channel speakers, and of course each power amplifier will not be too hard at work driving one speaker. (A stereo amplifier should not drive two speakers per channel, because the resulting load is too difficult for all but the most powerful amplifiers. At least if listening volume is not very moderate). If you need more power than the AVR 370 can offer, you have preamplifier outputs available. These open for the use of separate power amplifiers, and only money sets a limit for the power you can add. It is also possible to use a normal stereo amplifier as basic device, but it is necessary to find one with preamplifier outputs. We hope this helps.
