JBL Smartbase Wired is rated 1.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good sound, but other features lacking I bought this as a present for my very tech savvy fiancé. She recently bought a car equipped with Apple CarPlay, and if you’ve ever had the pleasure of dealing with it, you know how frustrating, limited and overall poor implementation it is. I digress, however. Let’s talk about the instructions. They offer very little indication about how to connect it, secure it to the dashboard, and how to operate it in general. Fortunately, I found a few YouTube videos that describe most of the features from other users. Problem solved. Mounting options - bad. Between her and I, we own 8 cars. The single mounting option didn’t work on any of them. The suction cup doesn’t work on a patterned surface, which is most dashboards today. I can’t even suction it to my old faithful sandbag base with a smooth middle, made for such occasions as this, because it sits too low to clear the weighted surround of the mount. So I thought I’d try to use the sticky option, but alas, I can’t. The maximum stickiness can be used because the suction “trigger” has to be pressed down in order to pop the unit onto the ball of the suction cup mount. In effect, this turns the sticky mount into a suction cup, which I already determined didn’t work, and provided minimal sticky surface of a thin ring around the outside (because the suction trigger pulls the center of the bottom part of the mount up, reducing the amount of sticky surface). But I thought, “this simple problem can be defeated if I just use one of my other mounts.” Foolishly thinking I can use a standard 1/4” ram mount ball, which obviously didn’t fit into the base of the unit because it was too large to fit into the base. And the metal tightening nut on the top side of the mount is unnecessarily large, as is the giant Allen wrench to loosen and tighten said nut. Moving on, the way the phone is supposed to sit against the flip up panel is equally poorly thought out. If you have a pop socket or any other prop on the back of your phone that allows one to hold the phone with one hand or prop it up, you’re out of luck. This could be accounted for with a circle “cut” into the middle of the flap, allowing the phone to sit flush with the panel. Or, by allowing more than just a 90 degree stand, there might be a way to deal with it. But since the flap has two options (up at 90 degrees or flat down), there’s no way to connect it. Having a spring loaded mechanism like on a selfie stick might solve part of the problem, or all of it depending on how it’s implemented. Being able to adjust the degree of “upness” would be good. Even if she didn’t have a pop socket on the back, the sticky mount translated to having a sticky back of my phone (I don’t use the pop socket), I had to use goof off to get the adhesive feel off the back of my phone. To me, this unit was rushed to market, with little market evaluation. There also is no app integration, so I can’t tell what volume the device is at, or really anything about the device settings. It’s either connected or it’s not. Generally disappointed, but glad I didn’t pay full price for it. I’m probably going to dismantle it and fix the ball mount problem by replacing it with a standard 1/4” mount, and cut the flip up panel out and replace it with a spring loaded selfie mount with a screw type mechanism that has some “alligator” teeth to be able to have the mount set at different degrees of “upness.” If any of these features make it into a future product, I fully expect royalties.

Can you link this to another jbl speaker like the flip 4 and have stereo mode while playing music?

Asked by: Riley123
Unfortunately, this is not possible because the JBL Smartbase Wired does not have the same proprietary feature as the JBL Flip 4 which is the Connect +.

I tried several models in the fit wizard but none of them were compatible. Why doesn't it fit a 1995 Mercedes E320 Cabriolet?

Does this base has the ADAS connector? If so can I connect it to a CLUB 704 and play music with the Bluetooth and signal goes to the AMP?
