Professional-level technology in a floorstanding loudspeaker.

The JBL® Studio 590 floorstanding loudspeaker brings professional-quality sound to the home experience. The Studio 590 uses the technology that JBL engineers developed for pro-audio loudspeakers to deliver accurate, powerful sound to your living room. The Studio 590 floorstanding speaker is a perfect complement to other members of the Studio 5 Series, including the Studio 530 bookshelf and the Studio 520C centre-channel loudspeakers. The Studio 590 features a 1-inch (25-millimetre) tweeter mounted on a glass-filled Bi-Radial® horn – the same technology used in JBL concert sound systems – to deliver concise, sustained high frequencies. A pair of 8-inch (200-millimetre) PolyPlas™ cones with Symmetrical Field Geometry™ (SFG) magnet assemblies handle low frequencies.

Studio 590 is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 52.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Killer at 50 percent off I've read about every review on these Studio 590 speakers that I could find, and I agree with all of the positives. If you give them good power, and a good to great recording, they will reward you with expansive and immersive sound. They don't have forward mids, nor harsh highs. I got them shipped for 962 USD with 62 being sales tax, and for that I can't complain. I run them in a dedicated music room, no sub, straight 2 channel, and they are keepers. They will rock your brains out, or they will put you to sleep with mellow, relaxing acoustic music, and complex and intricate fusion sounds spectacular. Give them good break in before judging them. They sounded really good out of the box, but with time and placement set, they are a speaker that punches much higher than their price class. (At 50% off) They don't do what my Chorus ll's will, but that isn't a fair fight, and they don't make me feel like I'm losing alot when I go from the big Klipsch to the 590 room, and I loooove the big 15 and midrange horn of the Klipsch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome for music. I have had these for a little over 3 years now, and they still get daily use. For the music we listen to in my house (Rap, EDM, Thrash) they have been fantastic. At -20db on a Yamaha RX-A840 is where they start hitting their stride and at -10db, we'll just sit on the couch for an hour and enjoy ourselves. The tweeter is incredibly detailed and you get awesome imaging. The bass doesn't really start hitting until you turn it up, but once you do, you'll start investing in command strips for any art on your walls. For HT we paired these with a studio 520c, and have no complaints for our 3.0 setup for TV. But they probably only get about 2-3 hours a week of use for HT, so I'll let someone else give you details on that. The only negatives I have, is the wave guide is a like a bullseye for little fingers. It's been an interesting couple years training the fingers away from the that amazing tweeter. Also when we turn on metal the mids need a bit of an EQ boost to really present themselves, but for Rap and EDM they're great out of the box. Since I caught these on sale, I'm giving them 5 stars for value, but at full price, it might be a 4/5. Still worth it, but it's harder to recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A wall of sound I bought 2 on sale a month ago without ever demoing. I was nervous ordering something so expensive with out trying them out. They blew me away how clear they are at high and low volumes when maxing out my system you can feel the sound hitting you like sack of bricks and I only have a 75 watt receiver. Shipping could have been more clear it said delivered but it was just delivered to the hub in my area and was out for delivery.

Are there any surround speakers that would match the studio 590s well. There are the 530s but they are simply too expensive (1k or more) to use just for surround so are there any alternatives? Thanks.

Asked by: Nick flicks
I bought a pair of the Studio 230 bookshelf speakers.  They worked pretty darn well as surrounds for the 590 towers, and you can sometimes catch them on a good sale on the JBL site.  I recently upgraded to 590 towers all the way around (left, right, center and surrounds.)  It's expensive, but it sounds ridiculously good.  I never liked multi-channel stereo before (when your receiver "upscales" the stereo sound to 5.1), but it sounds phenomenal in this all-590 setup.

Hello, which surround speakers are designed to match the Studio 580 and/or 590? I can find any offerings available which have the same tweeter design. Thanks!

Asked by: Z06Dude
The STUDIO 210 is the surround speaker that was designed for this series. If you do not mind having bigger speakers as your surround, mounted on your walls, the STUDIO 230 would also work as great surround speakers.

I love all JBL speakers but have a question. Studio 290's are 1/2 the price and use the same woofers as the 590's Unlike the 590's, the 290's also have a midrange driver. Here's the Question: "For home theater use, why is the 590 superior to 290?"

Asked by: HTFan
The main difference is the number and type of speakers inside. The 290 has two(2) 8" woofers, one(1) 4" mid-range and a 1" tweeter while the 590 has higher quality 8" woofers and a 1" horn loaded tweeter allowing it to accept up to 250W, a higher rating than the 290. The Studio 590 will definitely deliver an extraordinarily lifelike performance.

Would these Studio 590 work well with the Studio LC2 center channel? i see the matching Studio 520c is no longer available. I’m was looking at getting the Studio L890, however, after reading several reviews on the 590’s, i’m thinking about getting these.

You can get the 520 on ebay

I was reading lots of comments above and how great the speaker is.  Can this speaker use for karaoke?  The family and friend really enjoy karaoke night.  Unfortunately, I had bad experience with JBL JRX100 that current sit inside my closet.

What would be a matching and most applicable sound-wise center speaker to the Studio 590?

Asked by: Nicki1
The 520C is the speaker specifically designed to be the center channel with the 590 towers.  However, I recently bought another 590 tower as my center!  I put it behind my TV, and even in that weird position I think it sounds better than a 520C in front of my TV (I know, because I used to own the 520C).  My plan is to one day get an acoustically transparent screen and use a projector.  When the sound doesn't have a TV interfering with it, the 590 center will perfectly match the 590 left/right speakers.
