Slipstream™ port design

At high sound pressure levels, air flow turbulence inside a vented enclosure’s port can create noise that sounds like woofer break up. The patented Slipstream port in Series II enclosure uses a double-flared design to minimize turbulence, and eliminate unwanted vortices.

null

SSI™ (Selectable Smart Impedance)

Most car audio system designs call for 2- or 4-ohm impedance. Series II subwoofers feature an exclusive dual impedance switch that lets you choose either load impedance option. Not available from any other manufacturer, SSI lets you reconfigure your system by simply flipping a switch.

null

High-roll surround

Series II enclosure incorporate a high-roll surround that provides superior cone edge suspension while maximizing excursion. It not only increases the cone area, it also provides remarkable linear stability and reliability.

null

Proprietary cone design

JBL subwoofer cones aren’t just built to thump, they’re built to last. Series II enclosure feature an exclusive cone design that delivers superior rigidity for long-lasting performance.

null

Long excursion design

The longer a subwoofer’s excursion is, the more air it moves. And the more air it moves, the more bass you feel. The long-excursion design in Series II enclosure ensures big, deep bass output. Just the way you like it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OMG- The answer to all your needs. I wasted so much money and time looking for a compact box that would sound just right. whats right you ask? if your like me that goes from Rap (NAS ) to Rock (Strokes) to Movie Score (Mission Impossible) to Electronic (Apashe) you need and want a sub-woofer that hits deep for the rap and just clear thumps of a drum-set. THIS BOX IS IT!. a lot of the boxes i tried where too focused on just deep lows sure for a song like deep cover or get down they sound great hit hard but when you changed over to "Thunderstruck" or "Float on" they would not respond and the music would sound flat. with this box you are covered all around! wish they had a two speaker version with this exact woofer at 4 ohms

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Value I like the sub because it reaches deep lows without the voice coil bottoming out. It is also good value for money, with a high power rating. It is a bit large however, and takes up rather a lot of boot space. My minor niggles are a) no metal, open grille, cone protection: b) no handles, c) no pro cable socket, and d) slighly low sensitivity. It is great though! I nearly bought a Focal flax 10" driver for about £149 and a box for £40 but these JBL speakers are properly engineered and conveniently ready for use! The Series 3 digitally powered monitor loudspeakers; with sharp crossover slopes, are also a great buy at about £228 Sterling a pair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good sound from premade enclosure I bought this to add on to factory stereo paired with a jbl 600/1 old school amplifier that is built like a tank. Perfect combination. Has a really good kick. Box is light so I not sure about how durable it is but for now it works great. JBL makes great stuff for a reasonable price.

From what I’ve seen in this thread and what I’ve researched the GX-A3001 is a good amp for this. Idk if that’s JBL but I’ve heard good things about it.

What is the best amp from JBL to pair up with this sub?

Asked by: Cameronc
The S2-1224SS can handle 275 watts of RMS power handling. This means that any sub amp with an impedance of 2 or 4 ohms and a power output of 275 watts will work fine with these speakers.

Is there a different RMS at 2ohm and 4ohm settings?

Asked by: nbeda
The S2-1224SS can handle 275 watts of RMS power handling. This means that any amp with an impedance of 2 or 4 ohms and a power output of 275 watts per channel will work fine with these speakers. That said, the power that the speaker can handle remains the same whether it's switched to 2 or 4 ohms.

I have two sets GTO609C and a single S2-1224SS (over kill for a 1968 Volvo 122 Amazon). I was considering a GX-A604 to drive the two sets GTO609C and a GX-A3001 to drive the S2-1224SS. Am I in the right direction or is there a better solution?

Asked by: Kevin Campher
Yes you definitely are in the right direction. The amps would work perfectly with your speakers .

Is it supposed to make a popping sound when I first turn the car on? It’s a S2-1224SS and it only started doing this about a week or two ago and I want to figure out why the popping sound. Recently had my alternator changed too, if that helps

Asked by: xDavid76
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Our JBL S2-1224SS speaker system should not make a popping sound when you start the engine of your car. Your best course of action, for now, is to bring your automobile to the professionals who installed the unit or you can call our customer support so we can refer you to an authorized service center and have the unit diagnosed.
