Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Vocal After 30 years in the audio business, with a past history of the famed Altec 19 speakers, I can truthfully say that these are probably the most accurate sounding speakers I have ever owned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great speaker bought this on sale for $450 Thought it would be to small for what I wanted. turns out I was pleasantly surprised on how large the sound stage was on this speaker for only having 6 inch Drivers. Great deal for the price on sale. Decided to trade up to the 590 speakers when thy went on sale, didn't think there would be much difference. Boy what a difference in size and scale and sound stage was larger than most speakers that I have herd. great speaker for the money when on sale, you won't be disappointed. I know I wasn't.

Product Q&A

What would be good matching Rear speakers for these being in front? Any suggestion for in well, in celling and bookshelf speakers? for this?

Asked by: LAguy
It is not as critical for the rear speakers to match the fronts vs fronts and center. You could easily use studio 230, 220, 210

I have a pair of Studio 580's and am happy with how they sound. I am looking to finish a 7.1 HT system that will be powered by a Marantz SR-7011 that drives at 125W per channel. Can you suggest rear in-ceiling speakers that can handle up to 125W?

I am considering these or the 590's, they will be set up beside my 70" Led TV, seating distance is about 8 feet. Goldilocks question ... too big? ... too small? ... or just right? I haven't bought a receiver yet, waiting to see what the speaker set up is.

These speakers are perfect when you have a big TV. This would really make you have a home theater feel to it.

Hello, can you please tell me: if i buy these speakers from the US; will they be compatible with the power source in Europe? also with an European amplifier? Do they require a converter? Can you tell me the weight of a pair? thanks!

Asked by: tc89
The STUDIO 580 speakers are passive loud speakers so they do not require power. Having that said, it should work without any issues when used in Europe and a European amplifier as long as your amplifier is compatible with the specifications of the STUDIO 580 speakers. These speakers can handle 200W of power so you need an amplifier that can drive that much power, or lower and your amplifier should be rated to handle 6ohm speakers. The weight of a pair is 48.9 lb (22.2 kg).

Some JBL "pro" monitor speakers boasts smooth off-axis frequency response (e.g., M2, LSR305). Can I expect smooth off-axis response from Studio 580, too?

Asked by: eveningsmile
Usually speakers that use a horn design perform better off-axis because it spreads the sound in a wider array thus increasing the sound stage area itself. Consider a megaphone that sends sound to wider listening area. The JBL STUDIO 580 incorporates a horn-loaded compression driver, therefore it will perform well off-axis. If comparing the Studio 580s with that of the JBL M2's performance, then the M2 no doubt do a much better job(better speaker overall). The Studio 580 is floor-standing speaker which may perform better then smaller and less powerful PRO monitor (i.e. JBL Control 2P).

What is the difference in sound quality between JBL Studio 290 and JBL Studio 580? JBL Studio 580 are priced $200 more, does that mean they produce higher quality sound? Is one technically superior over another?

Asked by: skm100
The 580 have the tweeter at 40 kHz for super hifi compared to 290 only at 22khz. I have the smaller set of the 230 bookshelf and thay sound good for the the 200 series. But to sum this answer up the 500 series are better but expensive. The 290 will give you good bass and nice rich highs for the lower cost. I love my 230's and would highly recommend the 290's for a good loud setup.

Hello,  Studio 580 and HK 3770 Receicer what wire gauge I should use? Banana Plugs on both ends? What brands do you guys recommend? Thanks!

Asked by: Jraudsepp
14-16 gauge will work fine if you are running wires under 50 feet (15 meters). Anything generic brand from Best Buy or Amazon should do the trick. I personally use Pyle 16 gauge wires for my system.
