Highlights

The difference between merely watching a movie at home and being fully immersed in a cinema experience is JBL® sound. The JBL Cinema SB400 includes a two-channel soundbar for high-definition audio that complements your high-def video. It features four 2-1/4-inch (57-millimeter) cone woofers, two 1-inch (25-millimeter) dome tweeters, an amplifier that offers up to 120 watts of power, three HDMI® inputs (for multiple sources such as your cable box, DVD player, videogame console and computer), integrated Bluetooth® technology (ideal for streaming music from digital devices), dual-position equalization (which optimizes sound based on the soundbar’s location) and HARMAN Display Surround technology (which creates a surround-sound experience from only two channels). And for people who want more rumble and realism, the SB400 includes a separate, 200-watt, 8-inch (400-millimeter) wireless subwoofer with bass-boost functionality, which lets you tailor low-frequency response. Designed to complement flat-panel TVs that are 46 inches (1.168 meters) and larger, the glossy Cinema SB400 is ready to work with any type of A/V format and deliver the great JBL sound that you’ve come to love – and look great doing so.

What's in the box?

  • 1 Cinema SB400 soundbar
  • 1 8" (200mm) wireless subwoofer
  • 1 IR remote control
  • 1 power cable
  • 1 optical audio cable
  • 1 analog audio cable
  • 1 wall-mounting bracket
  • 1 warranty card
  • Quick-start guide

The Cinema SB400 incorporates amplifiers, controls and left and right woofers and tweeters into a single soundbar. Its built-in amplification simplifies system connections and operation, and offers up to 120 watts of power.

Nothing draws you into the action like huge bass. The Cinema SG400’s 8-inch (200-millimeter), low-frequency transducer and built-in 200-watt amplifier deliver all of your entertainment’s impact, emotion and excitement. And because the system is wireless, it puts no unsightly cables between soundbar and subwoofer.

Movies and TV shows aren’t the only things that sound better with a JBL soundbar. The Cinema SB400 wirelessly streams music from smartphones and tablets, delivering room-filling, full-range sound reproduction with exceptional bass.

With three HDMI inputs, the Cinema SB400 provides convenient connection for multiple HDMI source components. It also includes one HDMI output with Audio Return Channel (ARC), which sends the TV sound back to the soundbar. This setup simplifies switching and makes the system easier to use.

Drawing from HARMAN expertise in movie theater audio, the Cinema SB400 lets you add cinema sound without adding multiple speakers. Employing proprietary HARMAN Display Surround technology, it creates a virtual surround-sound experience while preserving the original audio mix in its timbre and special balance.

The Cinema SB400 decodes film soundtracks in their native format, which eliminates conversion stages that reduce sound quality. This arrangement helps the soundbar provide a superb surround-sound experience for multiple listeners.

The Cinema SB400 easily connects to any TV and even provides all of the cables that you’ll need. Easy to install, the soundbar requires virtually no setup. Just connect and play.

The Cinema SB400 features enough inputs to connect a TV and a disc player, satellite tuner or cable tuner to the system. It connects directly to any television and increases convenience – no plugging and unplugging required.

The Cinema SB400 comes with a credit card-sized remote control that can “learn” the IR (infrared) volume-control code of your existing TV remote control. You can literally control the soundbar and TV volume with the same remote.

You can place the Cinema SB400 on a shelf or tabletop, or wall-mount it with the included hardware. A dual-position equalization feature optimizes the soundbar’s performance for any location. So you can position it where you choose without compromising sound quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sound Love this sound bar. Great sound looked at lots of different sound bars and found the quality on this one to be great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT SOUND BAR I shopped all brands and price ranges of sound bars and the SB400 is the top of the list. Most sound bars either give good vocals or bass but not both. The SB400 fills both of those areas perfectly. I just set up my SB400 Refurb and couldn't be happier. Crystal clear vocals, very responsive bass. Pared with my tv volume control easily. Only disappointment is that the on-screen display doesn't work with my tv, but small issue to have such a nice system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome product Just bought this a week now and got to say it is bad to the bone. Its better than my Samsung 550.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Technologically experienced and audiophile I've had this for about 6 months now and absolutely love it. Run this with HDMI out of my computer to a samsung 4k and it sounds incredible. Hits lows much better than I was expecting and the bass boost does not distort like others do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AMAZING!!!!! I've now had this sound bar for 6 months and I love it. Super easy set up and the sound quality is amazing. I have the ability to feel like I'm in a movie theater when I turn subwoofer on or just Bluetooth and listen to music while I clean. It really is a great system I've had no issues with anything.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it ! Great sound and bass. At first I was skeptical but once I hooked it up to my rand started streaming music I was sold .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it so far I bought it about 3-4 months ago and think it sounds great. I like how I can only use my phone to turn it in with Bluetooth and it starts playing music after a few seconds. The mounting on the back will work, but is a little flimsy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No problems with setup and sounds great! I've had it setup for a week or so and live it so far. No problems with setup and I think it sounds great. Would definitely recommend it. The wall mount is a little flimsy though.

Asked by: Bighound
Unfortunately there is no way to connect two subs to the SB400 sound bar. Only the dedicated sub can be connected to the SB400 soundbar.

how do you pair your tv remote to the sound bar

Asked by: khan
If you're looking to program CINEMA SB400 to respond to your TV remote, here are the steps. Have the TV remote in hand. When you start programming the remote, be ready to aim the TV remote to the front of the soundbar from about 300mm–900mm (12–36 inches) away. To program the power, volume down, volume up and mute commands: 1. Ensure that the CINEMA SB400 is ON. 2. On the soundbar, press and hold the top-panel Surround button until the LED flashes amber. If the LED does not flash after three seconds, release the buttons and try again. 3. Press the soundbar top-panel button you want to program (Power, Volume Down, Volume Up, Volume Down and Up simultaneously for Mute). 4. Aim the TV remote at the front of the soundbar and slowly press the corresponding button on the top-panel button until the Surround button on the soundbar flashes white for one second. This indicates that the programming operation has been successful. 5. To exit the learning mode (at any time or when the learning is complete), press and hold the soundbar Surround button until the amber LED stops flashing. If you would like to program a new TV remote control or you are missing a command, restart the whole process. To reset the CINEMA SB400 remote settings: 1. Press the top-panel power button to enter Standby mode (amber color indicator) 2. Press and hold the Surround and Volume (–) buttons simultaneously. Once factory defaults are restored, the CINEMA SB400 surround button will flash white for one second, then the unit will enter into operational mode.

Is the SB400 compatible with any other JBL wireless speakers that can be added to expand it from a 2.1 to a 5.1 system?

Asked by: MikeJB
The SB400 is a pseudo surround system which means it is a stand alone system and no other speakers/add-on's can be connected to it.

The sound bar does not send any of the three HDMI equip (Apple TV/BR/Cable, to the TV.  If I run them direct they work. But when I run them through the sound bar the tv says no signal. Grrrrr

Asked by: PBNLM
The soundbar has HDMI source indicators near the top buttons, that is where you can see on which source your soundbar is. If your Apple TV is connected to HDMI 1, make sure that when you press on the source button on the soundbar that the HDMI 1 Led indicator lights up(it will light up for a few seconds). Perform this check with each source that is connected to the soundbar.

How can i play sound through the sounbar once i hook up my HD ?

Asked by: hugo1979
If your Source device(Cable Box, Game Console, BluRay, Etc...) is connected directly to the TV and the TV is connected to the Sound Bar either via HDMI or Optical cable, you would need to toggle the settings of your TV to set the Sound Bar as the TV's speaker. Some TV's have settings that allows you to toggle the speaker which the TV will use either showing internal speakers or external speakers. Some TV's would indicate what is connected to it(e.g Home Theater, Sound Bar, Etc...). Once you have set the TV up on what it will use as its speaker, make sure that the correct source is selected on the Sound Bar. If you are using an Optical Cable, the source should be set to Optical, and if you are using an HDMI cable, the source should be set to HDMI TV. If you have set your Source device directly connected to the Sound Bar, you would just need to connect an HDMI cable from the source to any of the HDMI Inputs of the Sound Bar(HDMI1,2,3) then another HDMI cable to the TV via the HDMI TV port of the Sound Bar. Make sure that your Sound Bar and TV are set to the correct source input on which the cables are connected(e.g BluRay connected to soundbar via HDMI 1,then HDMI 1 should be selected on the Sound Bar. HDMI TV from Sound Bar to the HDMI ARC input of your TV then select which HDMI source the HDMI ARC (either HDMI1,2,3) is on your TV).
