Highlights

The difference between merely watching a movie at home and being fully immersed in a cinema experience is JBL® sound. The JBL Cinema SB400 includes a two-channel soundbar for high-definition audio that complements your high-def video. It features four 2-1/4-inch (57-millimeter) cone woofers, two 1-inch (25-millimeter) dome tweeters, an amplifier that offers up to 120 watts of power, three HDMI® inputs (for multiple sources such as your cable box, DVD player, videogame console and computer), integrated Bluetooth® technology (ideal for streaming music from digital devices), dual-position equalization (which optimizes sound based on the soundbar’s location) and HARMAN Display Surround technology (which creates a surround-sound experience from only two channels). And for people who want more rumble and realism, the SB400 includes a separate, 200-watt, 8-inch (400-millimeter) wireless subwoofer with bass-boost functionality, which lets you tailor low-frequency response. Designed to complement flat-panel TVs that are 46 inches (1.168 meters) and larger, the glossy Cinema SB400 is ready to work with any type of A/V format and deliver the great JBL sound that you’ve come to love – and look great doing so.

What's in the box?

  • 1 Cinema SB400 soundbar
  • 1 8" (200mm) wireless subwoofer
  • 1 IR remote control
  • 1 power cable
  • 1 optical audio cable
  • 1 analog audio cable
  • 1 wall-mounting bracket
  • 1 warranty card
  • Quick-start guide

The Cinema SB400 incorporates amplifiers, controls and left and right woofers and tweeters into a single soundbar. Its built-in amplification simplifies system connections and operation, and offers up to 120 watts of power.

Nothing draws you into the action like huge bass. The Cinema SG400’s 8-inch (200-millimeter), low-frequency transducer and built-in 200-watt amplifier deliver all of your entertainment’s impact, emotion and excitement. And because the system is wireless, it puts no unsightly cables between soundbar and subwoofer.

Movies and TV shows aren’t the only things that sound better with a JBL soundbar. The Cinema SB400 wirelessly streams music from smartphones and tablets, delivering room-filling, full-range sound reproduction with exceptional bass.

With three HDMI inputs, the Cinema SB400 provides convenient connection for multiple HDMI source components. It also includes one HDMI output with Audio Return Channel (ARC), which sends the TV sound back to the soundbar. This setup simplifies switching and makes the system easier to use.

Drawing from HARMAN expertise in movie theater audio, the Cinema SB400 lets you add cinema sound without adding multiple speakers. Employing proprietary HARMAN Display Surround technology, it creates a virtual surround-sound experience while preserving the original audio mix in its timbre and special balance.

The Cinema SB400 decodes film soundtracks in their native format, which eliminates conversion stages that reduce sound quality. This arrangement helps the soundbar provide a superb surround-sound experience for multiple listeners.

The Cinema SB400 easily connects to any TV and even provides all of the cables that you’ll need. Easy to install, the soundbar requires virtually no setup. Just connect and play.

The Cinema SB400 features enough inputs to connect a TV and a disc player, satellite tuner or cable tuner to the system. It connects directly to any television and increases convenience – no plugging and unplugging required.

The Cinema SB400 comes with a credit card-sized remote control that can “learn” the IR (infrared) volume-control code of your existing TV remote control. You can literally control the soundbar and TV volume with the same remote.

You can place the Cinema SB400 on a shelf or tabletop, or wall-mount it with the included hardware. A dual-position equalization feature optimizes the soundbar’s performance for any location. So you can position it where you choose without compromising sound quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT SOUND BAR I shopped all brands and price ranges of sound bars and the SB400 is the top of the list. Most sound bars either give good vocals or bass but not both. The SB400 fills both of those areas perfectly. I just set up my SB400 Refurb and couldn't be happier. Crystal clear vocals, very responsive bass. Pared with my tv volume control easily. Only disappointment is that the on-screen display doesn't work with my tv, but small issue to have such a nice system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome product Just bought this a week now and got to say it is bad to the bone. Its better than my Samsung 550.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Technologically experienced and audiophile I've had this for about 6 months now and absolutely love it. Run this with HDMI out of my computer to a samsung 4k and it sounds incredible. Hits lows much better than I was expecting and the bass boost does not distort like others do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AMAZING!!!!! I've now had this sound bar for 6 months and I love it. Super easy set up and the sound quality is amazing. I have the ability to feel like I'm in a movie theater when I turn subwoofer on or just Bluetooth and listen to music while I clean. It really is a great system I've had no issues with anything.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it so far I bought it about 3-4 months ago and think it sounds great. I like how I can only use my phone to turn it in with Bluetooth and it starts playing music after a few seconds. The mounting on the back will work, but is a little flimsy.

SB400 Subwoofer without soundbar.  Can you have it alone, how if so?  Even know I'm pretty sure it can't, I ain't an expert.  Hope it might.

Asked by: gmh2
Unfortunately, the SUB would need the SB400 for it to work. It is not a stand alone type of Sub Woofer. So no, you cannot use it alone.

Can anyone please recommend a mount for the SB400 soundbar?  The screw holes are in the bottom of the unit, and all of the mounts I have found assume the holes are in the rear of the unit. Thanks for your help!

Asked by: Michael7
You should use the mounting bracket that came with the SB400.  Using the provided bracket I as able to mount the soundbar to a TV wall mount.  TV Wall Mount is the Sanus Simplicity SL9, purchased at Costco, and the soundbar mount is the Sanus Universal Soundbar Mount, purchased at Target

Can I mount the sound are above my tv? Is so, what kind of bracket will work

Asked by: Nina
Absolutely. However, please be aware that the maximum wireless operating distance between the soundbar and subwoofer is approximately 50 feet. A wall mounting bracket is included in the box.

My speaker amd sub go in amd out syncing with each other. It is happening constantly now. I can't make it through an entire song without the sub going out. I have unplug everything and started from scratch and nothing works....please help

Asked by: Yakedoc
The unit certainly should not be behaving this way. Please try resetting the unit by doing the following. This will reset it to the way it was when it came out of the box, and will hopefully fix the problem you are having. 1. Switch the SB400 ON. 2. Press and hold the Surround and Volume (–) buttons simultaneously for about 3-4 seconds, then let go. The Source selection Button flashes amber, followed by the power button and source buttons flashing several times. 3. The soundbar is now reset. It is important not to press too hard on the Volume- button, because that will also press down the Volume+ end of the button, and the reset will not work then. If you press too hard, two clicks should be felt or heard, indicating that this is wrong.

why is it that Cinema SB 400 cannot read most of my video in DTS format

Asked by: Rene60
The SB400 can accept a Dolby Digital signal, but not DTS and not more intense HD modes. So you would need to set the BR player to PCM as the output, so that it always sends a signal that the SB400 can understand.

There has to b a way to connect two sb400 subs woofers to the sound bar

Asked by: Bighound
Unfortunately there is no way to connect two subs to the SB400 sound bar. Only the dedicated sub can be connected to the SB400 soundbar.
