Designed for genuine entertainment enthusiasts, the Studio L Series delivers accurate performance, tight response, crystal clear dialogue, and true sound that defines JBL®. The L890 has a proprietary Polyplas™ woofer cone and dual front-facing FreeFlow™ bass ports for extended, floor-rattling bass with little distortion. Oversized Kapton® voice coils and a HeatScape™ motor give you exceptional power handling. The pure-titanium dome tweeter mounted in a proprietary Elliptical Oblate Spheroidal™ (EOS) Waveguide disperses the sound and eliminates the “sweet spot” conundrum. Sit wherever you like, any seat is the best in the house. The enclosure is slim and looks great with flat panel televisions. (Yes, it’s video shielded.)

What's in the box?

  • (1) Studio L890 Four-Way Dual 8" (200mm) Floorstanding Speaker
  • (1) Owner's Manual

Stiffer cones deliver more uniform pistonic motion for deeper, tighter bass and improved midranges. PolyPlas™ gives maximum impact JBL® audio. You’ll experience serious, feel-it-in-your-bones bass and true sound that does justice to the artist’s original performance.

The HeatScape™ motor structure envelops the voice coil with a large ceramic magnet and steel frame that protects the voice coil by dissipating heat. This increases power handling and gives you extremely low levels of harmonic distortion.

A thin, but rigid, 1” pure titanium-laminate dome tweeter delivers accurate high frequency response, even when the volume is cranked up. A Mylar® dome makes way for open, smooth spacious sound, and a seamless transition between the middle and high frequencies.

Elliptical Oblate Spheroidal™ (EOS) Waveguides, originally developed for JBL® Pro LSR studio monitors, disperse clean, high frequency sound more precisely across a wider listening area. There’s no “sweet spot.” Sit wherever you want.

By taking the shortest possible route from the input terminals to the transducers – simplifying and shortening the path – this proprietary crossover design means you hear everything your TV and music source can dish out.

Dual front-facing FreeFlow™ bass ports are acoustically matched to the woofer and move the air from the cabinet into the room. You get extended bass response with the lowest amount of distortion, adding power to your music and excitement to your movie soundtracks.

From 28Hz to 40kHz, nothing is over- or underemphasized. You get a true, full sound range from deep bass tones to ultra-high frequencies.

With 115W of continuous power handling and 500W peak, the JBL® L890 has robust, muscular delivery. It uses technology derived directly from JBL® Professional studio monitors and gives your home theater audio the unparalleled spaciousness and definition it demands.

Put the JBL® L890 anywhere that makes sense in your home theater set-up. It’s magnetically shielded for placement on the floor or wherever you want it, including right next to your TV or video display.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional Speakers I'm 60, I have had 6 major stereo systems in my time so far and I can tell you that JBL has been part of my last 3 systems. They consistent powerful and deliver a rich full sound. I would easily recommend these to a friend for home theater and or stereo listening. I couldn't be happier

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Speakers I have been using the speakers for about 3 weeks and have no complaints. Well balanced and clear. Paired with a Marantz PM7005 and they handle everything the amp can dish out. Definitely recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Legendary JBL Sound I'll never forget the first time I heard a pair of JBL speakers. I was a kid in high school, and I was over at a friends house who's parents had bought a pair of JBL L 65's. They were being paired with a Scott tube amp and a Garrard turntable, don't remember what kind of cartridge was being used. I was totally blown away. I'd never heard The Beatles, Stones, Doors, Who etc. like that before. A few years later, I heard a pair of L 100's. I was a young guy and couldn't afford any of this stuff, but I had discovered the best speakers in the world. My first real hi fi system included an pair of JBL L 19's. I used those speakers twenty years. Since then, I've owned a number of other brands of speakers, and nothing satisfies like JBL. I've had my L 890's about a year now. They were pretty well broken in after about twenty hours of playing. Their sound stage is very up front, great frequency response, very dynamic AKA very musical. The imaging is very good. The 890's disappear in the room leaving only the music. I'm using the 890's with an Onkyo A 9070 amp, Onkyo C 7070 CD player, Monster 400i interconnect. I'm very pleased with these speakers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best speackers ever So the sound is crisp clear, you cannot hear titanium twetter dome as only animals can(20-40K hz), but it add's to crispness of the sound. And its really does!!! Bass is amazing but i still added JBL sub... Just to pamper my sound obsession. Yamaha RXV675 able to put so much power in them that you want to leave the room but still no distortion. I mean these speakers great for large halls and can handle huge partys and discos, great big rooms, and sound amasing while you listen to them in quite mode! Jast bought yamaha 577 and same JBL monsters for my sisters wedding gift:) You will never regret!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fill your hungry ears Had these for several weeks now; shipping at ground rate was 2 days! Shopped, researched, participated in many blogs before finalizing a purchase. Things to consider: Nothing beats listening to speakers live; this takes time and there are many speakers in this price point. Room layout is as important as the power needed to drive speakers of this scope, take time to place speakers and choose an amp wisely - an additional cost but part of an overall good system. I wanted BIG, CLEAR sound with depth front to back and side to side; not an engineer or audiophile with a literate speaker vocabulary, but I have a discerning ear and 3 sets of other 'major' brand speakers, each have unique qualities and I love them all. Have the L890's in a 2 channel stereo music play only arrangement; the 890's fit the bill! - I love all music types and have been testing them daily for hours at a time - these are wonderful, large, box speakers with incredible highs, even mid-range and just enough base to bang out big drum sounds without drowning everything else out. You can, of course, add a separate sub-woofer if you like that large thump, but I don't find it necessary in this arrangement. The household agrees that these are great speakers for the price and need to play all music types very well; nothing gets 'diluted' at low and especially high volume play - clear, concise and very enjoyable. As large speakers go, you will need to wrestle them out of the box and make certain there is room for them to breath, but simple to set up and they look nice too. Again, can't emphasize enough that a high power amp is needed to drive these well; we are going to 'test' them in the home theatre system soon where I expect them to soar equally well. If you want some BIG, CLEAR and versatile wall to wall sound you definitely want to give these a listen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favourites As an engineer/producer of the "WHO" and many others over the years, I was asked to write a general review of JBL products some years ago which was posted on the JBL site........As well as listing many past favourite JBL speakers that I had used over the years (different units in different situations) I "praised" these speakers as my most recent faves at the time.........WELL - I still have AND use them above ALL my others AND they are still the "Best I've Ever Had" :-) Who needs a Sub Woofer - they have an absolute wonderful sound and overall frequency response.......... WHO'S YOUR DADDY........The L890's - that's Who!!!

Can I drive these speakers with an onkyo tx- 8160 network stereo receiver; 80 watts, RMS,  two speakers only, not home theater.....or does this low power receiver risk damage to the speakers...note the volume will always be low to medium, never high volum

Asked by: DNH1
You can actually use an under powered amp/receiver for this speaker. There would be no harm for either the amp or the speakers.

Hi!!! When willIt be available? What are the Harman Kardon amplifiers recommended? Thanks for your answer

Asked by: Carlos Mesa
Unfortunately, the STUDIO L890 is discontinued. It can handle up to 250 watts per channel. This means that any HK amplifier with a power output of 250 watts per channel or less will work fine with these speakers. The HK 3770 from our sister company, harman kardon, is recommended.
