The Plus One® Honeycomb-Laminate™ woofer cone is exceptionally stiff and lightweight with up to 25 percent more active surface area than a standard one of the same size. With a long-excursion surround, it boosts bass output and efficiency by 2 to 3 decibels compared with others.

It’s not the miniature tweeters that most other manufacturers use, but a high-bandwidth, edge-driven textile-dome tweeter like those found in very high-end home audio loudspeakers. Crank it up. You get less distortion even at high volumes and superior integration with the midwoofer.

These speakers make the best use of any amplifier by providing an optimum 2-ohm load. They use a lower-impedance voice coil than a typical speaker to extract the most power and performance possible from all amplifiers engineered to drive loads of 4 ohms or less. And the spider integrated, stitched-in tinsel gives the speaker enhanced reliability and eliminates audible tinsel-lead slap.

The JBL® P963 has a tweeter-level control. Use the simple switch to set the tweeter output level to match your personal listening preference or different mounting locations.

You’ll have 110 watts RMS and 330 watts peak power handling and a 96dB sensitivity rating. And you can push them to the limit. You’ll hear true JBL® sound. Nothing is under- or over-emphasized. The P662 has a frequency response of 35Hz to 23kHz.

In addition to better sound quality, the new, proprietary, JBL-patented woofer design offers far higher SPL (Sound Pressure Level) and better suspension symmetry than the previous generation.

Outboard crossovers are integrated into a harness connected to each speaker for easy installation. Oversized Direct-Connect terminals ensure perfect connectivity for bare speaker wires.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FINALLY - MY CAR ROCKS! When I restored my 1977 Trans-Am I wanted to re-live my youth. After investing in a decent stereo and amp, I skimped on the speakers and close "Kickers". They were awful. They could not handle the power and "popped" when the volume was up to 1/2 level. I learned about JBL from researching the net and installed a pair of 6x9's today. I was BLOWN AWAY. Not only could I crank them up - the clarity and range was impeccable. My friend that helped me install them ordered a pair for his mustang. I just ordered a pair of 6.5 inch speakers for my doors (and will toss those "Kickers" as well). Cannot wait to get them installed. THEY ROCK!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These Crank I bought these to replace a pair of GTO935's in the rear deck of my Honda Accord. The 935's hhave been great workhorses for several years but were showing their age with a blown supertweeter on one side and occasional silence from the other. Installed one of these for comparison and was blown away. Sound is excellent and it is loud. Crisp highs, and much more forceful lows. Great mids as well. Have Power Series 5 1/4" components in the front door, altogether a great, solid sound with Alpine 50x4 amp in the trunk.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from freakin amazing sayin I bought 4 of these for my 2000 F-150 supercrew cab (or whatever it is, the extended cab with the 2 suicide doors). The truck originally came with 2 - 5x8's in the front doors (dont always listen to the forums which said it came with 6x8's) I knew there would be trimming involved but due to the inaccuracies found in the forums more trimming was required than I originally thought so I cannot comment on how the fit is in a vehicle with OE 6x9's. The sound quality and clarity is absolutely astounding. I am only powering these speakers using the built in amplifier of the receiver which only produces about 18w rms however there is an incredible amount of bass, enough to where it is felt in the seats. I finished installing these this evening so I cannot comment on the durability of the speakers. At this point I would buy again, I will be installing more JBL products in the future, these are expensive speakers, but i would buy them again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow I have a 99 Toyota Solara with JBL Premium Sound System. The amp was great but blew the speakers that came in the car. I replaced them with the P963 6x9 rear deck and P662 6.5 in the doors. WOW. I was blown away by how good they sounded. Unbelievable how much louder and clearer these are - the bass is powerful. I can turn my amp volume up all the way and the speakers do not distort. My point is the speakers that came with the car were not cheap stock speakers - they were actually pretty good JBLs. And these blow those away. Big time. I honestly have to say that what I have now is the best sounding car stereo i've ever heard. It's not the loudest. But the clarity and richness of sound is awesome - especially for a car system. The P963 are awesome. My only regret is waiting so long to finally upgrade them. Had I known! The P963 speakers sound better than most home floor speakers i've heard in my life and would probably out-jam them too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome Speakers I got these speakers last fall for my Bronco. I got 2 P662's and 2 P 963's Along with a Pioneer GM-D8604 4 Way amp @ 150w/channel @2Ohms. I like it loud and clear and this set up sure delivers. Unfortunately I neglected to check the frequency response of the 6x9's and blew them after a couple of weeks of extreme volume. I have since replaced them with another set of p963's. I also added a 2x12 sub box with a 600w rms amp. I adjusted the roll off on the amps so the speakers arent getting too much low frequency to the 6x9's. I can say I am completely satisfied with the amazing sound I get from this system. These are amazing speakers. I cant imagine any better. Great job JBL.

I have a alpine pdx f6 amp and would like to run 4 p963 would that be good enough for these speakers? If not which jbl 6x9 would you recomend.

Asked by: Agonz
Your amplifier has a rating of 150W RMS per channel and the P963 has a rating of 110W RMS. With that said, the amp would overpower the speakers. For safe/nominal setup you should choose a speaker with the same or a higher rating than the Amp, just remember not to choose a speaker with too much difference from the Amp as we wouldn't want to underpower the speakers. As an example, the GTO939 would be compatible with the amp as the speaker has a rating of 200W RMS which is not too much of a difference to the amp.

can i use 4 of these jbl p963 3ways with the alpine 5 channel amp and a 12 inch subwoofer?  which subwoofer would you recomend?

Asked by: smacker
The P963 speakers can hadle 110 watts of RMS power handling. This means that any amp with a power output of 110 watts per channel or less will work fine with these speakers. I assume your amp can only put out 100 watts. As long as you don't crank it to the max, causing it to send distortion to the speakers, you will not have any problem. If you're looking for a 12 inch subwoofer to match your amp, consider getting the CLUB WS1200. The general rule when selecting a sub is to make sure it has at least twice the per channel wattage rating of the amp.
