Does It Fit My Car?
Highlights

JBL® GTO Series high-fidelity automotive speakers feature innovative technologies that we’ve engineered for the environment and conditions in today’s cars to help them deliver exceptional sound. Using patented, carbon-injected Plus One® (U.S patent no. 7,548,631) woofer cones, fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP) frames, butyl rubber surrounds and fabric tweeter diaphragms, GTO Series automotive speakers are the ideal upgrade to any car’s audio system. GTO Series speakers, including component separates with woofer, tweeter and passive crossover, cover the most popular factory-replacement and aftermarket sizes. Other unique features such as UniPivot™ (U.S. patent no. 6,002,780) tweeter positioning and tweeter level controls on select coaxial models or the I-Mount™ (U.S. patent no. 5,859,917) system for the tweeters in the component separates provide even greater installation flexibility to achieve the ultimate in-vehicle sound experience. Easily installed and built to last, JBL GTO Series speakers bring music to life in the car.

What's in the box?

  • 2 GTO 939 loudspeakers
  • 2 protective grilles
  • Owner’s/installation manual

JBL engineers designed the GTO 939 speaker to produce strong, clear sound from a head-unit or amplifier capable of delivering up to 300 watts of power. This makes the GTO 939 an ideal match to systems powered with head-unit or factory-amplifier power levels, or even with many of the GTO Series amplifier combinations to help keep up with systems that feature one or more subwoofers. And its great power-handling specifications also increase reliability over the lifetime of the speaker.

The GTO 939’s Plus One carbon-injected cones provide more overall speaker cone area than others in the class. With an effective increase in cone area, the speaker radiates more air. Also, the carbon-injected cone material produces a lighter and stiffer cone. The result is a better low-frequency response and a greater ability to make those important musical notes that people often associate with larger speaker sizes.

The Carbon-Composite non magnetic frame used in the GTO 939’s speakers resist warping even when you mount them on uneven surfaces. Their nonmagnetic carbon composite helps to control the magnet’s energy and deliver it to the voice instead of wasting it as heat. What’s more, the plastic doesn’t resonate. The result of this control is accurate sound in your car.

Low-Impedance, three ohm voice coils compensate for the undergauged speaker wiring found in many of today's cars, and make the most of every watt your amplifier or head unit can deliver.

GTO 939 speakers feature vented magnet assemblies to help cool the voice coil. Keeping the voice coil cool adds to increased reliability from greater power handling and helps eliminate power compression that can distort the speakers’ sound.

A wide frequency response that extends beyond 20kHz helps to compensate for speaker-placement variations in your car and for human hearing deficiencies in the high-frequency spectrum above 15kHz. The result is that GTO 939 speakers deliver more of the full-range frequency response that you associate with great sound.

High sensitivity allows a wider range of power to provide great sound without overdriving the audio system. With a sensitivity of 94 decibels at 2.83 volts/1 meter, the GTO 939 speakers achieve excellent volume and musicality with as little as 5 watts RMS. That means better performance overall, even with very moderate power driving them. And better performance makes the GTO 939 speakers an ideal replacement for factory speakers as well as for any aftermarket speaker installation.

Easily adjust the tweeter output from 0 to +3 decibels to compensate for low and off-axis mounting positions or road noise.

The edge-driven, soft-dome tweeter design in the GTO 939 increases power handling while reducing high-frequency distortion. Edge-driven tweeters also have better dispersion characteristics and allow a lower crossover frequency, which improves imaging. The result is better vocals and clarity in your music. There’s no sense having it loud if it doesn’t sound clean, too.

JBL technicians specifically evaluate each GTO Series speaker model in the development stages for overall and vocal-range voicing, intermodulation distortion (IMD) and performance at the limits of electrical and mechanical design. We also test according to strict carmaker reliability standards, both in development and in final production. All of these details are virtually unique to JBL car speakers, as most competitors do not even come close to this level of detail and oversight.

GTO939 is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Speakers for the price. I installed these speakers into my 2009 Sierra in boxes under the rear seats with the tweeters facing up. I purchased the basic 6 x 9 boxes and they fit near perfect under the seat securely. I have a 40 watt 10 year old Sony amplifier turned all the way up and these speakers scream. Due to the size of the little 12 x 12 boxes, the bass is nothing to really brag about but the mids and highs are as good as it gets. I plan on following up the 6 x 9's with a pair of JBL 12's to get the bass I need to compensate for them. I can tell you that the sound is amazing, No popping or tweeter squeeling. These speakers will not disappoint. I could easily add my kicker 300 amp to them but they are plenty loud enough with the 40 watts behind them. I must also mention that I am still using my stock stereo. With an aftermarket unit and added EQ, these speakers could be fined tuned to perfection. Spend the extra money and get them. ROCK ON JBL. ROCK ON.

They sound great and rattle the license plate frame!!! Now I don't have to turn the volume up all the way to enjoy my music. I listen to dance, rap,r&b, and latin music. All sounds good wit these speakers!!!!

I'm thinking about buying these for a new sound system I'm building. What amp(s) do you suggest for these and also some GT7-6s?  ps. If you have any better suggests speaker-wise, I'd love to hear it, so I can find the absolute best. THANKS!

Asked by: TristanKyzer
Absolutely. The GT7-6s has an RMS wattage rating of 45 watts. This means that any amp with a power output of 45 watts per channel or less will work fine with this speaker. At the moment, a 45 watt amp is not available. However, I can recommend the GX-A602, a 60 watt amplifier. As long as you don't crank it to the max, causing it to send distortion to the speakers, you will not have any problem. And for the other speakers that you will be including on this system check what best fits your car by using the "Find what fits your car" feature above, choose your vehicles make and model then select speakers. You can see there all speakers, including the GT7-6s, which is compatible or could fit your vehicle.

I am looking to pair a RF 400-2 to the perfect set of 6x9s for the front doors of a 2014 Grand Caravan. A 400-4 will power the dash speakers and the rear. I am trying to get the fullest sound without a sub. What is the best mix of JBL speakers for this?

Asked by: Bluemayskye
The GTO939 can hadle 200 watts of RMS power handling. So as long as your amp has a power output of 200 watts per channel or less, these speakers will sound great with your RF400-2 amp.

I just purchased these and the JBL GTO638s for my 2013 Altima to replace my stock speakers. What amp would I need to install for these speakers?

Asked by: McAce97
Im not a professional or know much but let me know how it sounds. Im thinking of getting these for my 2015 nissan sentra. Idk how many watts all your speakers put out but check your original amp to see how much its putting out then add minimum of 300 watts. These speakers are 200 watts continuous or rms 200 watts between the 2. 300 peak for i think just 1 speaker so maybe add 600 watts higher than stock for amplifier. Do they fit your car without any modifications?

I'm finding conflicting info regarding GTO939's RMS Power Range. Crutchfield (JBL authorized retailer) lists the RMS 5-100w. The GTO939 box shows 100w. But your website lists 5-200w. Has the speaker changed? Or just advertisement material?

Asked by: SDSoCal
The GTO939 has not been changed. As shown on the Spec Sheet, the GTO939 can handle 100 watts of RMS power handling. The recommended amp rating of 5-200 watts is based on the fact that many amplifier manufacturers cheat on their wattage ratings. So most 200 watt amplifiers will do fine. But this is more a marketing thing. The 100 watt RMS rating is what’s really important.

i have a 2104 camry do I need a speaker harness to connect this speaker. And if I need could you help me out which one I need. Thanks for the help.

Asked by: gio1269
Thank you for your question, you will not need a speaker harness, you can buy a SPADE terminal female at your local electronic shop or you can cut and use the factory wiring installed on your vehicle

The GTO939 I bought came with a removable plastic oval ring that sits on top and around the edge of the cone. The speaker grill doesn't seem to sit properly with this ring seating between the cone and the grill. Is this oval ring an installation option?

Asked by: Rolly
Thank you for your question, The spacer is used when you mount the speaker underneath the mounting surface to make room for the surround. The grille, if used, would be mounted above the mounting surface. You wouldn’t use the spacer in between the woofer frame and the grille. The mounting order top to bottom, if all parts are used, would be: grille, mounting surface, spacer, speaker.
