GTO638 is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing for the low price! I purchased a pair of 638s and 938s for my 2009 Toyota Venza and they sounded amazing with the stock non-JBL sound system, which is the lowliest on the Venza. They sounded loud enough for not being amplified. But I wanted to test them good, so I added an old-school Rockford 500a2. WOW! They got obscenely loud. How can these cheap speakers sound this good? They're made by JBL. Based on my good experience with these GTO speakers, I purchased a pair of amplified JBL LSR308 studio monitors for my music production. They don't sound loud like these GTO models but have some of their warmth and clarity. JBL are masters at their craft! You pay the price for entry-level speakers but the sound and quality is outstanding. These GTO speakers not only sound excellent, but can get LOUD without distortion. Seriously, they get impressively loud without losing clarity. I'm buying another set for my sister's car AND also for my car, since I don't have the Venza anymore. JBL has return customers for a reason. They make good products even on their entry-level lines. I'm tempted to upgrade to the Power series but these GTO series are flawless. I can't imagine a reason to get anything louder than these! BELIEVE ME!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super clear, good bass, overall amazing I put these and the GTO928 three way 6x9 in my 1992 Chevy Cavalier let me tell you these aren't your 90s stock speakers. I could not believe how great these sounded even compared to just everyones cars that are newer. I have the best sounding and loudest bass speakers out of everyone i know thanks JBL!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from crystal clear i wanted to upgrade my sound in my 2011 corolla s. so i read all types of reviews and watched youtube videos and everybody said nothing by great things about these speakers. and they were so right. the 638's in my front doors sound amazing. when they say concert sound they mean it. crystal clear highs and mids. i also put the 938's in the rear and they bang with no distortion. forgot to add, that im using the factory head unit and no amps. jbl is the best hands down

I was told that I can't connect aftermarket speakers to the stock amp in my 01 dodge dakota. Is this true for the gto638?

Asked by: Glue
The GTO 638 can handle up to 60W of power. As long as your amplifier drives power that does not exceed this and is safe to handle 2-ohms of resistance, the GTO 638 can be used with your vehicle.

On amazon reviews I see a few people insisting that the small spade is the positive and the large spade is negative. Is this true or is it a traditional setup with the large spade being positive?

Asked by: Amfl
This is not true. As shown on the Owner's Manual as well, available on this page, the larger terminal/spade is the positive terminal, and the smaller one, the negative.

i read that the GTO638 require a battery of some sort is that correct?

Asked by: guys
No need to have this hooked up to a battery as the GTO638 is a passive speaker. It must be connected to an amplifier in order to function.

Will this speakers work fine with an amo consisting of 2 - 50watt channels at 4ohms? Or will my amp be damaged?

Asked by: Lefo
The speaker will work with an amp with a power output rating of 60W or lower running at 4ohms as the speaker has a power input rating of 60W RMS @4ohms. With that said you wouldn't damage either the amp or the speaker.
